GPD claims AMD Radeon 890M iGPU will outperform Intel’s next-gen Arc A140V in TimeSpy

Intel Lunar Lake slower than expected, according to GPD

Strange data from GPD.

Today GPD has unveiled its Pocket 4 , the first handheld device based on the Ryzen AI HX 370. This product isn’t intended to be a gaming device, and GPD isn’t positioning it as one. However, along with the specs disclosure, the company has made some claims regarding the product’s performance. Along with the CPU core performance, the graphics figures are what caught our attention.

According to GPD, the DUO (a laptop) using a 45W TDP Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 will outperform a Lunar Lake processor running at the same power level. The company also confirmed that there’s a Core Ultra 7 268V equipped with Arc A140V graphics. The figures suggest that the Radeon GPU would be 6% faster. It’s worth noting that 3DMark Time Spy typically favors Intel graphics, and we’ve seen impressive figures before the 1st Gen Arc launch that didn’t live up to the hype.

For a broader understanding of where this product stands, it appears that the Arc 140V will be faster than the Radeon 780M (RDNA3), even when running at 72W. The following chart is also from GPD, but shown under a different product.

One interesting detail worth pointing out is that GPD’s figure for the Arc A140V at 45W seems to match the leak from Jaykihn, which presumably features the same architecture but running at at 17W. Both show the exact same score, with Jay’s data also mentioning 4,151 points in 30W mode. When comparing both leaks, it suggests either GPD is using unconfirmed performance figures, or Jay’s GPU was a 7 Xe2-Core variant, which isn’t the full model.

As always, there won’t be any official figures for Lunar Lake until September 3rd, when the company is expected to launch its new series. While synthetic benchmark data can be a good indicator, it’s most reliable when considered within a broader context, including multiple benchmarks. These figures are particularly interesting given that there will be gaming handhelds powered by Lunar Lake.
