AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D: a more affordable 6-Core CPU with 3D V-Cache spotted in EEC filing

AMD might be preparing a new X3D part for AM4 socket

Random AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D appears.

It seems the 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X3D won’t be the lowest SKU featuring 3D V-Cache. AMD is now said to be working on a new version called the Ryzen 5 5500X3D, which, as the name suggests, would also feature six cores.

Economics may have played the biggest role in AMD’s slow introduction of 3D V-Cache within the budget segment. The X3D series was never among the cheapest SKUs at launch, but given that the first 3D V-Cache SKU, the 5800X3D, came out two years ago, there is likely some stock of processors that would not qualify for any of the already available models.

It’s worth noting that AMD already has three models: the 8-core Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the 8-core Ryzen 7 5700X3D, and the 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X3D. The fourth model would feature 6 cores if the naming convention is maintained, but this hasn’t always been the case, as shown by the recent launch of the Ryzen 9 5900XT (expected to have 12 cores but featuring 16 instead).

This SKU appeared in a recent filing to EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission), as submitted on August 6th:

What do we know about the 5500X3D? It turns out this part was mentioned a long time ago , in November 2023. The SKU is said to feature a 3.0 GHz base clock, a 4.0 GHz boost clock, and 96MB of L3 Cache. This would make it 300-400 MHz slower than the 5600X3D .

AMD has not yet launched any Zen5-based X3D parts, but there are Zen4-based models, including the 7800X3D with 8 cores, the 7900X3D with 12 cores, and the 7950X3D with 16 cores. The budget X3D segment is clearly focused on the AM4 platform.

The Ryzen 5 5500X3D would be yet another update for the aging AM4 socket. The platform has just entered its 8th year since the introduction of the first Bristol Ridge processors, which came out even before the Ryzen series.
