Switch 2 release slipping from Q1 to Q2 2025
According to new reports, Nintendo won’t launch its highly anticipated gaming handheld before April.

There has been no update on the Switch 2 for weeks now, at least nothing that could be considered major news. As we await details on Nintendo’s new console, the rumored launch date has now been pushed back by another month or two.
Previous reports suggested that Nintendo might launch the new system around March 2025, but this no longer seems to be the case, as the company has allegedly told game developers that it won’t be available in this fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.
“No developer I’ve spoken to expects it to be launching this financial year. In fact, they’ve been told not to expect it in the [current] financial year. A bunch of people I spoke to hope it’s out in April or May time, still early next year, not late.

In other words, this means that the Switch successor should launch in April 2025 at the earliest, perhaps even in May. This delay pushes the release date from the long-expected end of 2024 to the mid-second quarter of next year. One reason cited by other sources is Nintendo’s plan to have a longer list of AAA titles ready for the console’s launch. This wasn’t the case with the original Switch, which only received limited game support at launch.
Time is ticking for the Switch, as the console’s hardware reportedly relies on the older NVIDIA Ampere architecture. By the time the Switch 2 is released, NVIDIA will have likely introduced its Blackwell series, meaning the Nintendo handheld will be two generations behind.
It’s worth noting that Nintendo has stated the Switch 2 will be announced within this fiscal year, but as we know, an announcement does not always mean an immediate launch; the actual release may move by a month or two.
