There’s new information suggesting that the Zen5 desktop parts may soon have higher power limits by default. The upcoming AGESA 1.2.0.1A Patch A is said to increase the default power limits (TDP) from 65W to 105W .
This change is expected to apply to the 8-core Ryzen 7 9700X and the 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about increased power for the 9700X, as it was rumored a few weeks ago that its power limit might increase to 120W. If the new information is accurate, AMD will indeed raise the default power, though not as high as previously reported.
AMD will increase Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X TDP from 65W to 105W, with AGESA 1.2.0.1a Patch A.

The news about the new AGESA update isn’t confirmed yet. The first reviews of the Ryzen 9000 series were published last week, and this potential change for parts that have already been thoroughly tested seems surprising. Lower power consumption was highlighted as one of the biggest advantages of the new series over its predecessor.
As of now, AMD has not confirmed the TDP change, and it’s uncertain whether this change will make it into the final BIOS, which hasn’t been released yet. Today, AMD will lift the embargo on Ryzen 9 9900X and 9950X reviews, so keep an eye out for potential updates from AMD.
