AMD plans October 10 launch for Ryzen AI 300 PRO, EPYC Turin, Instinct MI325X, and Strix Halo preview at CES 2025

Mark your calendars: 10.10 is AMD’s launch day

AMD has several launches planned for a single day.

On October 10, AMD is expected to unveil four new products, but they appear to be targeted towards business and professional markets rather than consumers or gamers. The lineup reportedly includes a workstation/business version of Strix Point (Ryzen AI 300 PRO), a Zen5-based EPYC Turin Classic and Dense processor series, the highly anticipated MI325X AI processor, and a new Xilinx accelerator.

For those eagerly awaiting consumer-oriented products, such as CPUs or GPUs for gaming, it appears that they will have to wait until next year. According to the leak, AMD’s high-end consumer products, including the Strix Halo and Krackan silicon, are scheduled to be launched at CES 2025, aligning with earlier rumors.

The upcoming CES 2025 event makes sense as the launch platform for AMD’s Strix Halo and Krackan silicon designs, which are primarily mobile APU designs. This suggests that we can expect to hear more about mainstream laptops without discrete graphics, yet capable of delivering high-performance gaming.

The Krackan, in particular, is a mid-range APU design expected to replace the Van Gogh chip currently used by the Steam Deck. The Krackan has similar specs but uses two generations newer CPU and GPU core designs (Zen5+RDNA3.5 vs. Zen2+RDNA2), making it a worthwhile upgrade. While Van Gogh was a custom-designed chip for Valve, the Krackan is also expected to be featured in low-power budget laptops.

Notably absent from the list of upcoming AMD products is the Radeon RX 8000 series (RDNA4). It appears that either AMD has not confirmed its plans to launch new discrete GPUs at CES 2025 or there will be no such launch. Given that it’s been two years since the RDNA3 GPUs were released, an update on Radeon technology would be long overdue by the time CES 2025 rolls around.
