Windforce V2 could feature GDDR6 memory

Gigabyte might be gearing up to launch the new RTX 4070.

A recent filing with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reveals that Gigabyte is preparing to launch four new models under the WindForce V2 series, all based on the NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU. This release aligns with expectations that NVIDIA will soon introduce a GDDR6 non-X version of the RTX 4070, likely later this month.

The four upcoming models will feature either the WindForce 3X or 2X cooling systems, indicating whether the cards have three or two fans, respectively. However, the “12GD” label on these models doesn’t confirm the type of memory, as Gigabyte has used “GD” for both GDDR6 and GDDR6X variants in this generation.

The timing of this leak aligns well with ongoing speculation, but it doesn’t provide a complete picture of Gigabyte’s plans. What’s clear is that the GDDR6 version of the RTX 4070 is on the way, with rumors pointing to a possible release around August 20 or later .

We’ve been in touch with board partners who are gearing up for this launch, and it’s expected to be a low-key event rather than a major release. The card is said to feature the same CUDA core count (5888) and AD104-251 GPU. The only important change is the slower memory type of GDDR6 clocked at 20 Gbps instead of GDDR6X 21 Gbps chips. Board partners expect minimal performance difference, but of course, that will require independent verifications.
