AMD Ryzen 9 9900X now at €499: 7% below MSRP

Did AMD make a quick price change, or did retailers just lower the price?

While Ryzen 9700X and 9600X pricing did not surprise customers in Europe, it was more or less in line with what one could expect once the US price was converted to Euros and applicable sales taxes were added. However, a strange phenomenon occurred in Germany, reports Hardware & Co .

According to media, the Ryzen 9 9900X was supposed to cost €539 in Germany and a bit more in France (due to higher VAT). But to the surprise of the French media, German retailers immediately started competing on pricing, leading to an immediate price cut to €499 , which is 7.4% cheaper than the official MSRP.

The German market is very competitive in terms of Ryzen CPU sales. No other country in Europe has as many official retailers (according to the AMD website ). This means that many of these stores operate at very low margins and some had to quickly follow suit, or they might not sell their CPUs at all.

According to ComputerBase , the Ryzen 9000 pricing for Germany should be within €309 to €709, but as shown by price comparison tools, those prices are already 1.4% to 7.4% lower. The 9900X, in particular, is now sold for €499, which converted to USD means $446 without VAT.

Customers did not overwhelm retailers with AMD Ryzen 9000 orders, despite the new series launching below the 7000 pricing at launch. However, the new series did not convince reviewers , especially those focused on gaming performance. The 7000X3D series still seems like a better deal overall. It is therefore inevitable that Ryzen 9000 will get even cheaper, perhaps as soon as next month when the supposed 9000X3D series is released.

There are currently no such changes in the US market, at least not among the largest retailers.
