Qualcomm introduces 8-core Snapdragon X Plus “X1P-42-100” SKU with 1.7 TFLOPS GPU

Cheaper laptops to get 8-core Snapdragon SKU

The company confirms leaks about the X1P-42-100 SKU.

Recently, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon announced that the goal for the Snapdragon X series is to reach sub-$700 pricing by 2025. So far, the company has made little effort to lower the prices of their first-generation AI laptops powered by Oryon architecture, most of which are still overpriced for what they offer.

However, these laptops are already becoming cheaper due to increasing competition from AMD (Ryzen AI 300) and soon, Intel (Intel Core Ultra 200V). A new SKU coming to the Snapdragon X family may further improve competitiveness, provided these laptops are priced appropriately.

Users can already find references to the X1P-42-100 in multiple places. Laptops equipped with this SKU were presented at Computex, and retailers have been listing these systems for weeks. However, Qualcomm had not confirmed it until now.

The X1P-42-100 is an 8-core processor with 30 MB of cache, a 3.4 GHz single-core boost, and a 3.2 GHz multi-core boost. This is 200 MHz slower than the lowest 10-core SKU in the Plus family, which officially still features only one model.

Perhaps even more important is the new spec for graphics. In Qualcomm’s chart, the Adreno GPU is mistakenly listed as a CPU, but the key detail is the teraflops, which now reach only 1.7 TF of single-precision compute power. That’s just 44% of the GPU power compared to the X1P-64-100 and only 37% of the flagship 12-core SKU. Given what we know about Qualcomm X gaming performance, this part will almost certainly fall short for gaming, however this SKU is intended for everyday (budget?) PCs.

So far, the only laptop confirmed to feature this SKU is the ASUS Vivobook S 15 , which is already listed by several retailers. WinFuture also discovered a unit of the ProArt PZ13 running on this SKU more than two months ago. Clearly, this SKU has been a long time coming.
