GeForce RTX 4070 with GDDR6 memory from Gigabyte
The company is set to launch at least two models.

Gigabyte is preparing two graphics cards based on NVIDIA’s latest GeForce RTX 4070 variant. Unfortunately, this variant isn’t an upgrade; it’s actually a downgrade to slower GDDR6 non-X memory. The original model is equipped with 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory, whereas the new series will feature 20 Gbps memory instead.
The company is launching two budget-oriented models within its lineup: the Windforce 2X V2 OC and the Windforce V2 OC (which should be called 3X, but that’s how it’s labeled). These models have dual and triple-fan designs, respectively.

Based on the information we have, these cards should otherwise feature identical specs to the existing GDDR6X models. This means 5888 CUDA cores, 12GB of memory, 200W TDP, and a standard 8-pin power connector. Both models are slightly thicker than 2 slots (48 mm) and have either a 20 cm length (dual-fan) or 26 cm length (triple-fan).
Perhaps the most important detail is the packaging. This is the only way buyers of the new RTX 4070 will be able to identify which model they are getting. The “V2” label alone isn’t clear enough, but Gigabyte is the first company (among five who have already announced GDDR6 variants) to list the memory type on the box.
This is still not an ideal solution, and it’s quite strange that NVIDIA didn’t create a new SKU that clearly specifies the memory type. Hopefully, the review coverage will confirm or debunk NVIDIA’s claims of ‘similar’ performance to the existing GDDR6X variant.
