Among the highlights from this webcast, the first since Gelsinger took over as CES last month, included:
- Intel has fully embraced EUV for their 7nm process. Intel plans to stay on the leading edge of EUV usage.
- Intel Meteor Lake in 2023 will feature 7nm manufacturing. Meteor Lake has a modular design. Intel plans to tape out Meteor Lake in Q2'2021.
- Foveros and EIMB continued to be talked up.
- IDM 2.0 is their latest strategy for "manufacturing, innovation and product leadership." IDM 2.0 involves a ~$20 billion investment to create two new fabs in Arizona. Intel is also expanding their use of third-party foundry capacity. Intel aims to become a major provider of US and Europe-based foundry capacity to customers.
- Pat also teased that other new US/European fabs will likely be announced within the next year.
- Intel is also announcing Intel On as a new industry event in the spirit of their former Intel Developer Forum (IDF). Intel On will start later this year - San Francisco in October is planned.
- Alder Lake has started sampling to customers and is still on track for this year with desktops followed by mobile.
- By end of this year, most wafer starts at Intel will be on 10nm.
- Ice Lake Xeon to launch in April .
- Customers are sampling Xeon Sapphire Rapids already. Ramp for Sapphire Rapids is H1'2022.
- Granite Rapids and Meteor Lake on track for 2023.
