Microsoft Flight Simulator's latest patch delivers new performance optimisations

Microsoft Flight Simulator has received its 1.14.6.0 update, delivering PC gamers new performance optimisations to increase the game's framerates in taxing areas.

Sadly, we do not know the performance impact of this update at this time. However, Asobo Studio has stated that the game's performance optimisations are designed to increase performance when flying close to large airports like Dallas-Ft Worth (KDFW). The game has also had the performance of server requests optimised, which should increase Microsoft Flight Simulator's performance across wider areas of the game.

Moving forward, Asobo Studios plans to further optimise the PC version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, paving the way towards the game's eventual launch on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. In the future, Microsoft Flight Simulator should have a DirectX 12 update, which should hopefully make the game a lot less CPU-limited on PC.

As noted in our PC Performance Review of Microsoft Flight Simulator , the game is extremely CPU-limited. Further optimisations in this area would increase Microsoft Flight Simulator's framerates of almost all PC gamers.

Bagpuss
I should hope so.

For a game (is it a game??) to perform hardly any better on 16 cores than it does on 4, in 2021, Is pretty pathetic.

Especially one having the heft and support of Microsoft behind it. Quote
