Hong Kong police have arrested a driver who fled on foot after his car caused a three-vehicle crash inside a tunnel and left four people injured.

His car collided head-on with a taxi in Shing Mun Tunnels and flipped it over, leading another vehicle to crash into the cab from behind at about 4.04am on Monday.

Police were told the driver of the car that hit the taxi fled the scene on foot, leaving his vehicle behind.

Officers arrested the driver, 34, in the afternoon in Tsuen Wan on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.

The 53-year-old taxi driver reported having chest pain while the passenger on board, a 63-year-old man, suffered abrasions on his head and face.

The 41-year-old woman driver in the vehicle behind the cab suffered from neck pain while her 27-year-old passenger sustained wounds on his hands.
