Tickets for Manchester United’s match in Hong Kong next month went on general sale on Friday, as it emerged that the city’s Football Festival in July would take place days after a similar event in Singapore.
A five-year partnership to host European teams at a Festival of Football was announced by TEG Sport and the Singapore Tourism Board, starting this year with Arsenal and AC Milan, both of whom will be en route to Hong Kong.
The announcement of the city state’s festival, which will also feature Newcastle United, reiterated its enduring appeal for touring football clubs, after the completion of Kai Tak Sports Park boosted Hong Kong’s ability to vie for the same spoils.
During Hong Kong’s festival, confirmed last month and also promoted by TEG, Arsenal will face Tottenham Hotspur in the first North London derby outside the UK, after Milan take on Liverpool, both at Kai Tak Stadium. Fans in Singapore will have the earlier chance to see Arsenal and Milan, at the National Stadium.
First to arrive in the region, however, will be United. Most of the tickets in the lower-priced categories for their match against Hong Kong’s representative team on May 30 – United’s first fixture in the city since 2013 – were snapped up in the first two hours on Friday.
They went on public sale at 12pm Hong Kong time from local ticket vendor Cityline, priced from HK$390 to HK$2,990 (US$50 to US$385).
