A Chinese CEO and influencer, who became popular in Japan after taking part in a reality dating show, has ignited a flurry of online reactions after defending unruly Chinese tourists and expressing a desire to correct stereotypes.
The controversy emerged recently when Chinese entrepreneur Huang Hao was confronted with a challenge from a Japanese netizen who said: “It is really annoying to see a bunch of rude Chinese people.”
Born in Shanghai and educated in Japan, Huang is an alumnus of the prestigious Waseda University and launched his own business. He currently has almost 220,000 followers on one social media platform.
He rose to popularity in Japan after appearing on the hit dating reality show The Bachelor Japan , where he was the bachelor in Season 4 in 2021, and had to choose from 15 women vying for his affection.

Huang was challenged by an online commenter who said: “Seeing a group of rude Chinese tourists really annoys me. Are there not any polite Chinese people like your father? Or is it that polite Chinese people just do not come to Japan?”
He responded by saying: “These words are from my heart. To be honest, I sometimes find it annoying too.”
