Under consideration for Fedora 43 is changing the default generator used by CMake from Ninja to instead using the Ninja back-end. As most Linux developers and those rolling from source know, using Ninja can yield much better performance. Some Fedora packages are already explicitly using the Ninja back-end but this new change proposal would be about setting the default as specified via the %cmake macro.
The net result is this change proposal would lead to faster build times and a better out-of-the-box support for areas where CMake+Ninja features are better supported such as around C++ modules.
More details on this Fedora 43 change proposal, which needs to still be voted on by the Fedora Engineering and Steering Committee (FESCo), can be found via the Fedora Wiki .
