Hong Kong police officer’s firearm accidentally goes off at headquarters

A Hong Kong police officer’s semi-automatic firearm accidentally discharged at the force’s headquarters in Wan Chai on Tuesday afternoon.

The officer was unloading his weapon in a designated area inside the Arsenal Street premises when a single round was accidentally fired, a police spokesman said.

No injuries were reported.

The Post has learned that the gun was a semi-automatic firearm assigned to the force’s Hong Kong Island emergency unit.

The spokesman said police had strict regulations regarding the use of equipment and the case was being handled by officers from the Hong Kong Island regional unit.
