Raja Koduri shows off Xe-HPG 512EU GPPU
And so begins the teasing of the next-generation high-end Intel discrete GPU series.
On Twitter, Raja Koduri (SVP, Chief Architect, and GM for Intel Architecture, Graphics, and Software) revealed the graphics processor for the upcoming Xe-HPG based series. The chip is labeled DG2-512 which confirms it has 512 Execution Units (4096 cores). It is the flagship GPU for the new series that will be paired with up to 16GB of GDDR6 memory.

Koduri confirms that DG2 development is ongoing. The last few weeks were very productive at Folsom labs, he reveals. The path to next-generation GPU architecture had its bumps though, as he quotes Roger Chandler: “From jittery journeys to buttery smooth”. He also revealed that game optimizations still to take place in the future, which indicates that the launch is probably not happening very soon.
At this moment we know about five SKUs based on the DG2 family. At least three GPUs are to launch, including 512EU, 384EU, and 128EU models. The 512EU variant will be used for discrete mobile and desktop graphics cards, marking a great return to high-performance graphics by Intel.
