Dropbox that its password manager, Dropbox Passwords, is shutting down soon. And you don’t have long to find a new solution.

Dropbox Passwords is being discontinued, and users are encouraged to find a new password solution elsewhere.

Why the shutdown? Per a , it’s “part of our efforts to focus on enhancing other features in our core product.”

Though web service shutdowns often come with extended timelines, to give users plenty of opportunity to migrate elsewhere, that’s not the case with Dropbox Passwords.

In less than a month, the service will become view-only, then the mobile app will stop working altogether in September, and in October accessing your passwords will become impossible on any platform.

• 8/28/25: Dropbox Passwords will become view-only in both the mobile app and browser extension . You’ll still be able to view your saved usernames, passwords, and payment information, but you won’t be able to add new ones. Additionally, the autofill functionality will be deactivated.
• 9/11/25: The Dropbox Passwords mobile app will stop working . However, you will still be able to access your Passwords information through the browser extension.
• 10/28/25: Dropbox Passwords will be fully discontinued . You’ll no longer be able to access or add any saved usernames, passwords, and payment information and these entries will be permanently and securely deleted from our servers. The dark web monitoring feature will be discontinued.

Dropbox recommends that users transfer their passwords to another password manager, such as 1Password. Apple’s Passwords app , of course, is another option. It’s pre-installed on all Apple devices already.

Export instructions are as follows:

1. Open the browser extension
2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the bottom-left corner
3. Click Preferences
4. Click the Account tab
5. Click Export
6. Click Export to confirm
