BioShock 4 Developer Lays Off Unknown Number of Staff As New Studio Head Takes Over

Cloud Chamber, the developer behind BioShock 4, has reportedly laid-off an unknown number of employees, according to Jason Schreier . This round of layoffs follows a recent announcement that the studio would see leadership changes, with the game's creative director Hogarth de la Plante being moved to a publishing role. Now, 2K Games has also installed former Rod Fergusson, former Diablo producer, as the new head of Cloud Chamber. Fergusson announced the news on his X account, citing that he would also be working on the BioShock tie-in movie in development for Netflix. Fergusson also worked on BioShock Infinite as vice president of development shortly ahead of its launch, when it was limping towards completion.

Fergusson also mentions the layoffs, saying "I recognize the studio restructuring is a difficult time for the team," and going on to say that he and the Cloud Chamber team are committed to building a BioShock game that they will be proud of and that players will love. This latest round of layoffs follows a particularly messy restructuring at ZeniMax and Xbox Gaming , which saw over 9,000 workers lose their jobs. BioShock 4 recently failed a publisher review by 2K Games, who cited the game's narrative as the primary reason for the review failure. BioShock 4 was announced in 2019, but it has been in development for far longer than that, and a narrative rewrite seems to suggest significant work is still to be done on the game ahead of launch.
