Hyper Light Breaker Double Down Update Lands with Ambitious Gameplay Changes to Salvage Early Access Roguelike

When Hyper Light Breaker launched into early access on Steam, we reported on the mixed reception it received from fans, and that has more or less held true over the remainder of the game's early access period—with the game's review score sitting at a firmly "Mixed" 67% positive. Heart Machine has previously acknowledged the issues with the game and partially attempted to remedy them with the Buried Below update earlier this year, but that didn't quite seem to stick the landing, either. Now, with the Hyper Light Breaker Double Down update , Heart Machine is attempting once more to add more enticing content to the game, polishing the gameplay mechanics and game flow, and balancing a bunch of weapons.

The new update adds a new playable character, a new mini boss, three new enemy units, a new weapon, and an absolute smorgasbord of new mods. There are also seven new points of interest to explore, a new bounty mechanic in the Overgrowth, and a host of bug fixes and balances. The new enemies, points of interest, and bounty mechanic should address earlier player complaints about a lack of content in the Overgrowth, and the steps Heart Machine has taken to alter the gameplay should address some of the pacing and balance issues that a lot of gamers lamented during the game's initial release period.
