In a recent Gamescom interview with All Out Gaming , Gearbox CEO, Randy Pitchford, has seemingly all but confirmed that the game developer is working on a sequel to the wildly popular Borderlands 2 spin-off, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. When asked about potentially continuing Tiny Tina's story, Pitchford replied: "I feel like we're just getting started there," going on to say that there is a dedicated team of fantasy fans at Gearbox. He likens TIny Tina's Wonderlands to a beach-head at the start of an invasion, implying that there will either be more Tiny Tina's Wonderlands games or games with a similar blend of fantasy TT RPG and looter-shooter elements.
The first TT RPG-inspired spin on the looter-shooter franchise was first launched in 2022, and has earned itself something of a cult following, so it makes sense that the game studio would be interested in pursuing a sequel. Back in 2024, there were rumors that a planned Wonderlands sequel had been cancelled, but those were refuted by industry insiders, who had supposedly spoken with workers at 2K Games. Pitchford went on to talk excitedly about the Timekeeper—the main villain in Borderlands 4—suggesting that the new big-bad is going to be a change of pace for the franchise, and that he is "all business and all serious, and he's trouble on a whole different level." He specifically draws a comparison to Handsome Jack's somewhat charismatic personality, implying that players will feel no fondness for the new villain.
