In a announcing the news, Eero explained that Eero Signal can be connected to any USB-C Eero on your network to provide backup connectivity during an internet outage. The device has a built-in eSIM and “automatically connects to a local cellular network with the included eSIM” during an outage.

With eero Signal, customers get peace of mind that their network will stay online during an internet outage. It can be connected to any USB-C powered eero on a network that supports Wi-Fi 6 and up, and will be available in 4G and 5G models. eero Signal will automatically detect an internet outage and use an available cellular backup connection to keep the customer’s network online.

In addition to the Eero Signal hardware, you’ll also need an annual Eero Plus subscription to actually use the built-in cellular connectivity. The base Eero Plus tier, which costs $99.99 per year, includes 10GB of data per year. Eero has also announced a new Eero Plus 100 plan, which provides “up to 100 GB of backup data during an internet outage per month” for $199.99 per month. Eero Plus other features, as well.
