Apple has just announced the new iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models, alongside a special iPhone Air, which was the highlight of the event. The upgrades are pretty hefty taking into account the front-facing features Apple has brought to the devices. While design is one aspect, the company also made sure that the devices house upgrade chips. This brings us to question about the RAM in the latest iPhone 17 lineup compared to the iPhone 16.

If you are not familiar, all iPhone 16 models came with 8GB of RAM as standard, but this time around, the company has made some slight alterations by dividing the lineup into 8GB and 12GB. That's right, the standard iPhone 17 comes with 8GB of RAM, but the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro features upgraded 12GB of RAM.

While it is expected from the iPhone 17 Pro models to house 12GB of RAM due to their 'Pro' moniker, the iPhone Air took place of the iPhone 16 Plus, which is in line with the smaller iPhone 16 when it comes to specifications. This is where the company segregated the lineup further, as the 'Air' is a blend of both . This is because, the iPhone Air also features the A19 Pro chip, albeit with a 5-core GPU instead of a 6-core GPU that you would find in the iPhone 17 Pro models.

The extra 4GB of RAM on the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will attract users who want smoother multitasking or more headroom for future software updates and enhancements. Moreover, the larger RAM count will also contribute towards better performance under demanding loads like video editing.
