Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Launch Delayed With No New Date in Sight

Shortly after it was announced that Borderlands 4 would be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3, 2025, Gearbox CEO, Randy Pitchford, shared expected performance figures for the mobile gaming platform and sparked concern amongst fans of the looter shooter franchise. Now, it appears those concerns weren't without merit, as Gearbox and 2K Games have officially delayed the launch of Borderlands 4 on the Nintendo Switch 2. So far, there is no updated launch date, but it appears as though the Switch 2 version of the game is not completely cancelled.

In the announcement on X , Gearbox and 2K say that "the game needs additional development and polish time" to deliver the experience that fans expect. It also adds that all pre-orders for the Switch 2 version of the game will be refunded automatically starting on September 26. The Borderlands development team will now aim to deliver the Switch version of the game at the same time as the update that will add cross-save, although there is no indication when this will occur—neither in the delay announcement nor in the post-launch roadmap published by 2K shortly after the game's release. The announcement of a delayed Switch 2 launch follows frequent complaints from PC gamers regarding performance, stuttering, and occasional bugs, so it's no surprise that the Switch 2 version might need a little extra work.
