Steam Beta brings TPM/Secure Boot checks to System Information

Steam preparing for Secure Boot requirement in more games

Steam beta adds Secure Boot and TPM status to system information.

Valve has updated the Steam Client Beta with a feature that shows whether Secure Boot and TPM are enabled on a user’s PC. The new status entries appear under Help > System Information and are also included in the Steam Hardware Survey.

Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 have become requirements for an increasing number of games, mainly those with stricter anti-cheat systems. Recent examples include EA’s Javelin anti-cheat in Battlefield 6 and the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 , both of which will not launch without these security features enabled.

Steam Client Beta – September 23rd
The Steam Client Beta has been updated with the following changes:

  • Windows
    • Added detecting if Secure Boot and a TPM are enabled on the current machine. This information is displayed under Help > System Information. It is now also collected when opting into the Steam Hardware Survey.

For players unsure of their configuration, Steam now provides a straightforward way to check if the two settings are active. If Secure Boot is disabled, most motherboards require enabling it through the BIOS. TPM is usually integrated in modern CPUs or as a discrete module on the motherboard.

The update was released in the September 23 Steam Client Beta and is expected to roll out to the stable client later.
