GamingLaptops moderators warn of MSI marketing bots flooding threads on Reddit

GamingLaptops mods call out coordinated brand marketing from MSI

We were recently contacted about a new issue involving one company in particular. The moderators of the GamingLaptops subreddit have raised an issue about an increase in coordinated marketing targeting their community. In a recent post, the team informed users that recommendation threads are being flooded with comments pushing a single brand or model, often posted in suspiciously repetitive patterns. This brand is MSI.

According to the moderators, the posts show clear signs of being coordinated rather than genuine community advice. Many accounts share near-identical comments with only slight variations. The tone and phrasing appear copy-pasted, with accounts posting a few times before going silent. The moderators believe these efforts involve a mix of bots and paid posters.

The issue is further complicated by the rise of AI-generated spam. While some of the comments read smoothly on the surface, they lack the depth and detail of authentic user recommendations, making moderation more challenging.

To protect the community, mods of GamingLaptops have reminded the rules: no brand promotion in recommendation threads, full disclosure of affiliations, and a focus on personal experience over marketing slogans.

I would say Reddit is unfortunately a victim of its own success of being a popular place to share experiences. The new AI models are heavily based on Reddit content, and such comments are not necessarily targeted towards users, but also such AI crawlers. Have we made a full circle yet?
