Rockstar Games Project ROME (Rockstar Online Modding Engine) for GTA6 rumored to be revealed soon

Rockstar’s “Project ROME” could bring official mods to GTA 6

Old rumors point to Rockstar building a new platform called Project ROME straight into GTA 6. The idea is simple: give players tools to make their own missions, servers, and game modes without relying on third-party mods. That’s basically what most modders and gamers were asking for a long time.

ROME is said to stand for Rockstar Online Modding Engine. The move makes sense after Rockstar bought Cfx.re in 2023, the team behind FiveM and RedM, which power custom GTA V and Red Dead servers. If this turns out to be true, GTA 6 wouldn’t just be a game, it would be a platform where user-made content grows alongside Rockstar’s own updates (something like Cyberpunk 2077 maybe?).

Rockstar Games is reportedly preparing to reveal Project ROME (Rockstar Online Modding Engine) soon.

According to GTA 6 Countdown, the reveal of Project Rome may be close. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed ROME yet, and there are big questions: Will it work on both consoles and PC? Will it only affect online play or touch single-player too? And will creators be able to make money from it?

For now, it’s all leaks and speculation, but the timing suggests Rockstar may talk about ROME before GTA 6 launches, if it launches on time of course.
