ASUS rolls out first firmware update for 2023 ROG laptops with stuttering issues

ASUS releases first firmware update for ROG laptop stuttering issue, seeks community feedback

ASUS has shared an update on the ROG laptop performance problems that have been affecting multiple models over the past few years. After internal testing, the company says its engineering team has isolated the cause of stuttering, short freezes, and audio interruptions seen on certain systems.

The first beta BIOS is now being released for select 2023 laptops, including the Strix SCAR 15 (G533ZW) and Zephyrus M16 (GU604VI). ASUS is inviting owners of these models to try the early firmware and provide feedback. The company confirmed that using this beta software will not void warranty coverage.

This move follows months of reports pointing to ACPI firmware code in the BIOS as the root cause of the interruptions. Analysis shared by community members suggested that inefficient instructions were passed to Windows’ ACPI.sys driver, leading to long interrupt delays and uneven CPU utilization.

While only a handful of 2023 models are included in the first wave, ASUS says finalized BIOS updates for all affected systems are scheduled to start rolling out in early October, with additional SKUs covered in later waves.

Perhaps the independent analysis has helped ASUS find the root cause and fix the problem quicker. Unfortunately, ASUS has not confirmed whether this report was of any use.
