Wee Beastie: 4.75L “fishtank” PC with RTX 4070 MXM GPU unveiled

GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU spotted in MXM form factor for unusual desktop design

A new ultra-compact desktop project called Wee Beastie has appeared on crowdfunding platform, and it packs hardware that has never been available in this form factor before: an RTX 4070 laptop GPU in MXM card format. Perhaps calling this a form factor is not entirely correct, unless we consider these tiny desktop-alike PCs as such.

The system measures just 200 × 110 × 217 mm , with a total internal volume of 4.75 liters, yet it integrates a full Intel H-series processor and a 400W internal PSU. Two CPU options are offered, Core i7-13700H or Core Ultra 7 255H, both paired with NVIDIA’s RTX 4070 12GB GDDR6X GPU, installed on an MXM board. While MXM has been used in mobile workstations for years, consumer systems with desktop-like expandability have been rare these days, and the 4070 has not previously been seen in this format.

Other specifications include support for up to 128GB DDR5 memory and 16TB of NVMe storage, WiFi 7 connectivity, six display outputs (3× HDMI, 3× DP), and USB4. Cooling is handled by a 13-fan vortex airflow design, with transparent acrylic panels and ARGB lighting giving it the “mini fishtank” look. The cooler looks like a tiny graphics card, but it’s not anytin anything like that.

Although this may seem like a stretch, the team behind the project says that it is capable of 4K gaming with ray tracing and DLSS 3 to local AI workloads, citing 466 AI TOPS performance for tasks like Stable Diffusion and video upscaling. Upgrade access to RAM and storage is supported, unlike some soldered mini PCs.

The Wee Beastie has two configurations at $699 and $899, their specs are listed above.
