Morbid Metal, an upcoming hack 'n slash rogue-lite game was originally announced to be launching into Steam Early Access on August 20, 2025, but it was announced in July that it would be delayed to Fall 2025 in order to give the developer more time to work on polishing the gameplay experience and "make the game even better." More recently, Screen Juice and Ubisoft announced on X that Morbid Metal will once again be delayed, although no new launch date has yet been revealed. Pricing and pre-order dates are also so far a mystery, but it will likely not be super cheap, since it has been in development for over seven years and features some pretty striking graphics and complex combat mechanics.
While gamers eager to jump into Morbid Metal will have to wait a little longer for the full launch, the delay announcement also reveals upcoming limited playtests for Morbid Metal, which will be used as a way to polish the gameplay and will give players an extended look at the game. Morbid Metal is being developed by indie developer Screen Juice and published by Ubisoft as part of the Open Innovation Accelerator program. Judging by both demo gameplay and what's visible in previews and trailers, Morbid Metal will feature fast-paced, heavy-hitting, combo-based combat and some interesting gameplay elements, like mid-fight shape-shifting. You can sign up for the play tests on the game's Steam store page .
