LG UltraFine 32U990A 6K monitor with Thunderbolt 5 launches $1999 in US

LG’s first 6K Thunderbolt 5 monitor to cost $1999

LG is preparing to launch its UltraFine 32U990A, a 31.5-inch 6K professional monitor equipped with Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. Originally announced at CES 2025, the display is now opening for pre-orders, with US availability starting on September 30 at $1,999.99.

The UltraFine 32U990A is not a gaming monitor. It is aimed at video editors, 3D artists, CAD professionals, and VFX creators who need maximum screen space and precise color reproduction. Its 6,144 × 3,456 resolution IPS panel delivers a sharp 224 PPI pixel density, offering around 150% more pixels than 4K and about three times the canvas of Full HD. The panel provides true 10-bit color, 98% DCI-P3, and 99.5% AdobeRGB coverage, paired with VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification. Peak brightness reaches 600 nits, with a 2000:1 contrast ratio.

Connectivity is a key feature. Alongside DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1, the monitor includes two Thunderbolt 5 ports supporting video, up to 80 Gb/s data transfers, and 140W charging for compatible laptops. Daisy-chaining is supported, and an integrated two-port USB-C hub allows peripherals such as webcams or external drives to be connected directly.

LG has also integrated a KVM switch, letting users control two systems with a single keyboard and mouse. Built-in speakers, height and tilt adjustments, and pivot support for portrait orientation improve usability, while the 100 × 100 mm VESA mount offers flexibility for arm or multi-monitor setups.

The 31.5 inch size may be too small to run 6K resolution natively, but with some per-app UI changes, it may be just perfect enough to run photo or video editing software without changes. And yes, despite this being a DisplayPort 2.1 monitor, the maximum resolution is still locked to 60 Hz, but as we said, it’s not for gaming.
