MSI says 800-series AM5 motherboards are “Future CPU Ready,” pointing to Zen 6 support

MSI first to acknowledge Zen 6 on AM5 socket?

The existing 800-series motherboards will support ‘future CPUs’, confirms MSI rep on official Discord.

While AMD is keeping quiet on the possibility of Zen 6 support for the AM5 socket, the hints dropped about long-term support, potentially matching that of AM4, clearly suggest that next-generation desktop CPUs will work with the same socket and chipsets.

The information was shared by MSI representative Jason on Discord in response to questions about one particular motherboard. He confirmed that one of the recently announced boards is unfortunately delayed, which led the community to ask if it would support future Zen 6 CPUs. Surprisingly, the rep confirmed that it will be “future ready.”

The discussion is about these new motherboards, specifically the X870E Tomahawk MAX PZ and X870I TI EVO:

Looking at the Ryzen lineup, the AM4 socket supported four generations and microarchitectures, from Zen to Zen 3. The AM5 socket is set to support at least three architectures: Zen 4, Zen 5, and Zen 6, along with four series, including the Ryzen 8000 APUs.

It is still unclear if AMD will continue with the Ryzen 10000 naming scheme for its next-gen desktop CPUs. Considering how often AMD’s marketing team changes branding with each launch, it seems unlikely that the company will keep things that simple.
