GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER with 32GB GDDR6X memory now available in China

RTX 4080 SUPER with 32GB memory spotted

We return to the topic of GeForce RTX graphics card modifications that enable higher memory capacities. These are not official models, nor are they produced by legitimate manufacturers. Their purpose is to unlock additional memory on gaming graphics cards for uses unrelated to gaming. The expanded memory capacity allows Chinese ‘startups’ and AI farms to use cheaper RTX cards for AI training. Such cards are produced in large quantities and have already affected models like the RTX 3090 and RTX 4090. Now, they are appearing in the xx80-class GPUs in larger numbers.

The RTX 4080 SUPER, released in January last year, shipped with 16 GB of GDDR6X memory. This was the same configuration as the RTX 4080 non-SUPER, with the only difference being slightly faster chips (23 Gbps vs. 22.4 Gbps). The SUPER refresh mainly focused on higher CUDA core counts and increased TDP.

We previously covered this practice in a report based on a VIK-on video that showed how standard gaming cards were modified into these upgraded “Frankenstein” models. That video suggested the memory upgrade was possible only when hackers accessed specific NVIDIA files enabling such modifications. So far, no RTX 50 models have appeared with expanded memory, though reports suggest they are coming, and some cards have already surfaced from production lines.

While RTX 50 stock slowly grows, these groups are shifting focus to more affordable alternatives. One such case is the RTX 4080 SUPER, which normally features 10,240 CUDA cores and 16 GB of memory, but has now been upgraded to 32 GB.

These modified RTX 4080 SUPER cards with 32 GB memory are currently listed for around 9,200 RMB on the Chinese second-hand market. Sellers appear to have large quantities, available for immediate shipping.

The exact origin of these cards remains unclear, but the sheer volume being offered suggests they were mass-produced, with reports showing boxes of them ready for sale. We can also see the “CT AI” logo on the back, this company was already known to be involved in mass card modifications. Each card has a new blower-style cooler with foil protection, and there’s even a warranty sticker, but good luck doing warranty claims with these.

Many thanks to VIK-on for the tip!
