Qualcomm releases Adreno 31.0.121.0 driver with game stability fixes

One of the main issues with Qualcomm Snapdragon devices for PCs is the lack of frequent GPU driver updates. The X Elite’s Adreno GPU is not a strong choice for gaming, but it can handle some titles as long as emulation works properly. We often receive questions about Adreno updates, but community interest remains low based on comments.
Things may improve with the next generation, the Adreno X2 from the Snapdragon X2 Elite , which is expected to deliver roughly double the performance of the current GPU. This could finally allow smoother gameplay without relying heavily on upscaling technologies.
The newly released Adreno GPU Driver 31.0.121.0 focuses on improving game stability and performance across several titles, including DIRT 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Fortnite . It also enhances application performance in AutoCAD and Adobe Camera Raw. Display reliability has been improved with DisplayPort 1.1 HBR2 support, better fallback handling for display data, and fixes for pixel rate and mode selection issues.

- Display Fixes
- Added support for High Bit Rate 2 (HBR2) mode on DisplayPort 1.1 to account for some hardware on displays.
- Implemented a fallback mechanism for reading display information in failure scenarios – Enhances compatibility and reliability with a wider range of displays.
- Fixed a bug where displays were connected via a Digital Flat Panel (DFP) port, to account for maximum pixel rate. This ensures only supported display modes are selected, improving stability and preventing display issues due to unsupported configurations.
- Changes Targeting Software Developers
- Added OpenCL support for the cl_khr_external_semaphore_dx_fence extension.
Of course, this driver is only for Snapdragon X Elite, since X2 Elite has not yet been released.
Qualcomm needs to improve Adreno GPU driver releases
Users still report that Snapdragon X Elite GPU drivers feel unfinished, with frequent instability and inconsistent performance. Qualcomm’s slow update rate also remains a concern, with weeks or even months often passing between releases .
Another issue is limited OEM support. Users with Lenovo, Samsung, and other Snapdragon X Elite laptops often find new drivers blocked or incompatible, forcing manual installation. Even when successful, the Adreno Control Panel provides few controls and rarely receives updates. Some users also note that installing reference drivers can cause problems with cameras or power management, making the update process unreliable. This is one of the reason why we are not sure if adding a new GPU driver tab to our website will be a good idea.
