How ASUS made ROG Astral 5kg Gold Edition

Tony Yu from ASUS China has shared a video showing the entire process behind the creation of what is the most expensive graphics card ever made. This GPU appeared as a surprise reveal at Bilibili World 2025 in Shanghai. As expected, it will never reach the market. The card was developed by a content creator at ASUS’s request for a private “investor” who provided the gold used to build it.

As a reminder, ASUS previously designed the ROG Astral RTX 5090 “Dhahab Edition,” with “Dhahab” meaning “gold” in Arabic. That model included around 6.5 grams of gold worth roughly $700 and was available for purchase through various retailers. A signed copy of the Dhahab card was even auctioned for $24,200 earlier this year . In contrast, the custom model featured in ASUS’s new video contains an estimated 5 kilograms of solid gold, valued at around half a million dollars.

A Bilibili creator has completed what may be the world’s only pure gold RTX 5090D graphics card, using around 10 jin (≈5 kg) of gold for the outer shell. The project began as a humorous “commission” and turned into one of the most ambitious modding projects ever featured on the platform.

The gold-casting process took months and over ten failed attempts. Each component, including the shroud, backplate, and frame, was molded, cast, and polished by hand. The finished card weighs 7.56 kg, with about 5 kg of gold used in total. The surface combines sandblasted and polished textures, engraved auspicious cloud patterns, and enamel-filled ROG logos.

Before the planned auction, a private collector reportedly purchased the card directly . Part of the proceeds will be donated to Bilibili Charity, supporting education for children in rural areas.
