The 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M Yaghi for their work in the development of metal-organic frameworks.
The award, announced in Sweden’s capital Stockholm, is the third of six Nobel awards to be handed out this year.
On Tuesday, the Nobel Prize in Physics went to three US-based scientists for work putting quantum mechanics into action, enabling the development of all kinds of digital technology.
On Monday, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to a US-Japanese trio for research into the human immune system.
The chemistry prize will be followed by the Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday, the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, and concludes with the economic sciences award on Monday. The economics award is the only Nobel not established in the will of Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite.
Last year, the chemistry prize went to three protein researchers: David Baker of the US and the British-based scientists Demis Hassabis and John Jumper.
