Zen6 support confirmed for AM5 socket

ASUS becomes first company to directly name Zen6 CPUs in official materials.

This will likely disappear soon, but here it is. ASUS has officially confirmed support for Zen 6 CPUs . The information appeared in official marketing materials for the newly released AMD B850M-based motherboard called AYW Gaming OC. This is a high-end board designed for overclocking, which we covered recently.

The product description lists Ryzen 9000 compatibility and DDR5-9600 MT/s memory support. However, a closer look shows that it includes a 64 MB BIOS labeled as ready for Zen 6. This likely indicates that the board will feature a larger BIOS to support more CPUs simultaneously, without removing older models. It also directly confirms Zen 6 support, the next-generation AMD architecture for desktops and laptops.

The Zen 6 architecture, expected to arrive next year, is said to feature an increased core count. Each CCD chiplet may include up to 12 cores, compared to the current 8-core design used for five generations of Zen processors.

While AMD has not officially confirmed Zen 6 support for AM5, the company has consistently suggested that the AM5 socket, introduced with the Ryzen 7000 series, would be supported for at least as long as AM4, which just entered its ninth year with new CPUs still being added. It remains unclear whether AM5 will have the same longevity, but AMD recently announced the Ryzen PRO 9000 series, which is expected to receive up to ten years of updates even before release.

With Zen 6 support now appearing in ASUS marketing materials, AMD’s own confirmation may not be far off. The new architecture is not expected to launch soon, it looks like a 2026 release, though it’s too early to pinpoint the exact quarter.
