Intel promises to support XeSS3 Multi Frame Generation in all XeSS2 games

Intel XeSS3 dropping to all games with no changes to the API

Intel will support XeSS 3 in all existing XeSS 2 games, confirmed Tom Petersen. The new update for Intel’s super resolution technology will include multi-frame generation, arriving before AMD’s FSR equivalent.

At the Intel Tech Tour, the company confirmed that current XeSS 2 games will remain fully compatible. There are already 50 titles using XeSS 2 and more than 250 using XeSS 1 or 1.3. XeSS 3 will act as a drop-in replacement using the same API, requiring no changes from developers.

From what we understand, the XeSS 3 Multi-Frame Generation feature will appear as an option in the Intel Graphics Software app. Users will be able to choose between 2×, 3×, and 4× frame generation modes depending on their preference.

Intel has not shared detailed performance comparisons for the 2× to 4× settings yet but showcased two game demos.

XeSS 3 will be supported on all Core Ultra CPUs and Alchemist or newer graphics. Whether it provides a noticeable benefit may depend on the base framerate, as frame generation tends to be less effective below 40–60 FPS.
