I think we’ve all grown tired of watching tech influencers unbox extremely expensive graphics cards that most of us will never be able to afford. Prices for the last three generations of GPUs have reached absurd levels, pushing the mid-range segment into much higher pricing tiers than before. But does that mean users who can’t afford a new card have no choice but to save up and upgrade? Not necessarily.

Unless the game is Borderlands 4 from developers who seem to believe gaming is only for those with high-end rigs, there are still options. These include using upscaling, frame generation, or simply adjusting expectations for performance and visuals. But that doesn’t mean older GPUs belong in the trash.

The YouTube channel RandomGamingHD , known for covering affordable GPUs, recently shared a video testing the newly released Battlefield 6 with two older graphics cards. One was the GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER, often mocked even at launch in 2019 (though NVIDIA still managed to surprise with the GT 1630). It was the lowest-tier Turing GPU (TU117) with just 4 GB of VRAM. At least it had a 128-bit memory bus, unlike today’s low-end cards that often use 64-bit.

Both cards were tested in a 2025 title optimized for current mid-range GPUs. The developers clearly aimed for a wider player base instead of restricting access through ray tracing or path tracing, which exclude many older systems. The game runs efficiently and supports a range of upscaling and frame generation technologies.

RandomGamingHD noted that players using such GPUs should forget about native resolution, upscaling or resolution scaling is essential. Frame generation can help but depends heavily on architecture and base frame rate, as multiplying an already low FPS doesn’t make the game much smoother. As we can see above,

Upscaling methods like FSR or XeSS offer minimal improvement and can even reduce performance, while Frame Generation feels inconsistent and laggy. Frame Gen produces over 100 FPS, but it’s not always butter smooth experience. The best results come from using a 60% resolution scale with anti-aliasing disabled, delivering a smoother 60 FPS at the cost of image clarity.

While most gamers will prefer upgrading to a stronger GPU for this fast-paced title, RandomGamingHD’s tests show that older cards still have their place and shouldn’t be discarded. Unfortunately, driver support for the RX 570 is already limited by AMD.
