Intel DG2 GPU with 256 Execution Units spotted alongside 14-core Alder Lake mobile CPU

Intel DG2 with 256 Execution Units offers GeForce GTX 1050 performance

Intel DG2 appears in the Geekbench leak.

While the Geekbench result pages do not explicitly mention DG2, it is no secret that there are no Gen12 Xe GPUs from Intel featuring more than 96 Execution Units. There were actually two Gen12 GPUs tested in a very short time using the same Alder Lake CPU. One features 96 Execution Units, but the other features 256. One would guess that the former is an integrated GPU, while the latter is likely based on DG2-384 GPU (a cut-down SKU):

The 96 EU DG2 iGPU has a maximum frequency reported at 1.2 GHz, whereas the 256EU variant has 1.4 GHz. The memory information seems to be affected by the type of benchmark being used (Geekbench OpenCL test), but it is reported at 1.5 GB and 6.22 GB respectively for both variants. The latter is actually being recognized as ‘Gen 12 Desktop Graphics Controller’, however, this GPU being tested alongside Alder Lake CPU using FCBGA 1744 socket, indicates that we are looking at a notebook.

Both GPUs were tested on a system equipped with 12th Gen Core Alder Lake CPU (possibly Alder Lake-P), with a reported base clock of 797 MHz and a maximum clock of 3989 MHz. The frequency reading is likely affected by the fact that this is a hybrid CPU with high-efficiency and high-performance cores on a single die. The fact that DG2 GPUs were tied to the ADL-P series shouldn’t really be surprising to our readers, because we knew Intel had plans to combine Alder Lake-P with its DG2 series for a long time:

In terms of performance, well it is not great. The DG2-256 scores around 18450 points which put it very far in the official ranking . This is a performance of the Pascal GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card. The 96 EU integrated GPU scores much lower with performance similar to GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi). Those are of course very early benchmarks and we expect those scores to improve, hopefully by a big margin.
