AMD Strix Point for Ryzen 9000G?

The name appears in the BIOS after all.

The recently released AGESA 1.2.7.0 update for some AMD 800-series motherboards confirms that new AMD APUs are coming. They are expected to launch around CES 2025, roughly 10 weeks from now (how quickly this year has passed).

As reported, this AGESA version initially included only references to “Krackan” silicon, the entry-level chip that powers the Ryzen AI 350 and 340 APUs. It features fewer CPU cores than the higher-end Strix Point (8 vs. 12) and a smaller GPU configuration with 8 RDNA 3.5 compute units instead of 16.

However, that’s not the full story. Data-mining by HXL and Zhe Chan shows that the latest AGESA for desktop AM5 CPUs also includes new references to “STX,” which stands for Strix Point. This codename appears alongside RPL (Raphael), PHX (Phoenix), and previous Krackan entries:

While this doesn’t confirm the Ryzen 9000G lineup directly, it does indicate that AMD has added Strix Point references, and companies like ASUS have already confirmed that new APUs are on the way. Based on current information, it seems the Ryzen 9000G series may not be limited to Krackan – Strix Point variants are also likely.

I’ve updated our 9000G spec chart accordingly, assuming both Krackan and Strix Point models are part of the series. It now looks far more balanced than the earlier projection based solely on Krackan. Strix Point for the Ryzen G-series is a long-awaited upgrade, though it’s reasonable to expect it will cost more than the Phoenix 8000G models.
