NVIDIA finally realizing 16GB is more desired by gamers.

A report from Board Channels, claims that NVIDIA has instructed board partners to limit supply of the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB model, while keeping the 16GB version widely available. The information suggests this is not due to production issues, but a controlled strategy tied to current demand.

According to the report, recent sales of 8GB models have been weak, while the 16GB version has been selling at a steady pace. With many recent games using close to or above 8GB of VRAM even at 1080p settings, some users are avoiding the lower-capacity model. This has also been visible across AMD products in the same segment, where 8GB cards have been sitting in stock while 16GB versions move faster.

NVIDIA has reportedly told AICs to avoid building up large inventories of the 8GB model and to maintain pricing around the official MSRP. This includes preventing discounts during November sales campaigns. The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and 8GB models are understood to share the same GPU configuration, with the memory capacity being the only major difference. The 16GB model is typically around $70 higher in price, which may influence many buyers to choose it instead if both are in stock.

As with most Board Channels rumors, this information is difficult to confirm directly. Changes made at the channel level usually show their effects after some time, so the market impact should become clearer over the coming weeks.

It is true, however, that NVIDIA prioritized OEMs and system integrators with 8GB models, this also applies to RTX 5060 non-Ti versions. AMD RX 9060 XT series follows the same principle. Perhaps we are nearing the time where 8GB models become obsolote and next-gen GPUs in the same price range will at least use 3GB memory modules, which would already increase capacity to 12GB through the same memory bus.
