AMD Radeon PRO AI R9700 is now available: 32GB memory and full Navi 48 GPU

AMD launches Radeon PRO AI PRO R9700 for retail

Gamers were not provided access to the 32GB version. Professionals, however, were.

Today marks the third embargo lift for Radeon AI PRO R9700. The card was announced in May and released to OEMs and system integrators in July. Three months later, AMD is launching its flagship RDNA4 workstation GPU for the DIY market.

The Radeon AI PRO R9700 is not a gaming card. So far, every model uses a single-fan blower-style dual-slot cooler. The difference this time is that AMD is allowing board partners to introduce small customizations to the reference design. For example, Gigabyte will offer a silver variant. These are semi-custom models, but the underlying board layout appears identical across all cards.

The R9700 features the Navi 48 GPU with 4096 Stream Processors. This is the full configuration, the same as on the Radeon RX 9070 XT. The main difference is the memory capacity. The PRO model has 32GB, w hich is twice the amount of the RX version. Total board power is 300W for the PRO model and 304W for the RX model. Gaming models may reach higher power limits with factory overclocking, which is not available for R9700.

R9700 is also the first AMD card to ship with the 12V-2×6 (16-pin) power connector by default. None of the partner models use the older 8-pin setup. Early listings indicate that power adapters will be included, similar to NVIDIA RTX cards.

RX 9070 XT is officially a $599 card, but pricing has drifted. Most retail models sell for $600 to $700. The PRO R9700 launches at $1299. We will see if retailers maintain this price at launch and in the following weeks. This is a notable increase for what is largely a memory capacity upgrade.
