Brazilian modders attempt to rebuild RTX 5070 Ti using NVIDIA’s legendary GTX 1080 Ti HOF

Our favorite modders from Brazil — Paulo Gomes, Sidnelson, and Jefferson Silva — are back with a new project, taking things to the next level. Earlier this month, we shared their experiment combining two competing graphics cards into one GPU, using the Radeon RX 580’s power section to revive a broken RTX 5070 Ti. This time, they’re reusing the same 5070 Ti GPU but pairing it with a new donor: the GTX 1080 Ti HOF from GALAX , one of the best models for extreme overclocking.

The goal is to give the damaged 5070 Ti,  which previously had a literal hole in its PCB , a stronger foundation with more power and better clock behavior. Combining PCBs may sound simple, but it requires extensive knowledge, testing, and voltage tuning. The Pascal-based 1080 Ti board uses different power parameters, and matching them to Blackwell levels demands specialized software, programming, and precision calibration.

We made dedicated adjustments to the MSVDD and NVVDD power rails to properly feed the GPU core and memory. However, with this new PCB swap, the GPU currently runs at basic clock speeds, unlike the previous RX 580 board where normal clock scaling worked perfectly.

They manually tuned the GPU and memory power rails on the modified RTX 5070 Ti, targeting about 1.0 V to reach safe operating levels for the chip on the 1080 Ti HOF PCB. Using schematics and a digital programmer linked to the PWM controller, they adjusted voltages through the I2C interface until readings stabilized near 1 V. To avoid damaging the PWM’s limited write cycles, they treated this as a temporary adjustment to safely boot the GPU.

In this first stage, the aim was to make the card run at stable clocks, similar to the earlier RX 580 mod. The card booted on the first attempt, which surprised the team, but its clocks stayed stuck in a low-power state below 200 MHz. Since they confirmed it could start, they moved to the physical modification phase, cutting the HOF PCB into an L-shape with a Dremel. The next steps include cleaning, wiring, and optimizing the card for higher clocks.

If they succeed, this could become one of the most interesting GPU mods of the Blackwell generation. Adding extra power stages to custom cards isn’t new, but doing so using boards from several generations apart certainly is. Many consider the RTX 5070 Ti the best Blackwell GPU, given its price and performance, so technically this mod combines the best Pascal and Blackwell cards into one.
