RPCS3 updates GPU recommendations, drops support for Polaris and Maxwell GPUs
The team behind the PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 has updated its GPU recommendations to reflect the end of official driver support for older AMD and NVIDIA architectures.

The new baseline now starts at AMD RDNA (Radeon RX 5000 series or newer) and NVIDIA Turing (GeForce RTX 2000 series or newer), both requiring Vulkan 1.2 compatibility with active driver support. Intel GPUs are currently listed as not recommended due to lack of proper driver support.
The developers clarified that this change does not increase hardware requirements or affect performance:
This doesn't mean that RPCS3 is suddenly more GPU demanding, there's no associated code-side change.
PS3 is a CPU-based console and very CPU heavy to emulate due to its CELL arch. As long as you have a modern Vulkan 1.2 GPU, your CPU is ultimately what matters for performance.

Older GPUs such as AMD Polaris (RX 400/500) and NVIDIA Maxwell (GTX 900) can still run RPCS3 but are no longer officially recommended because both vendors have ended driver updates for these products .
On Linux, however, older GPUs remain supported through open-source Mesa drivers, with RPCS3 noting compatibility dating back to ATI’s 2009 Evergreen series (HD 5000).

So what this means is that this update primarily focuses on stability and compatibility with current driver packages rather than raising performance demands. The emulation will run exactly like it did before on current and perhaps new verisons of RPCS3. Developers explained that PS3 emulation is more CPU-bound than GPU and there was no change to the code base that would warrant the GPU support change.
