ASUS has officially confirmed the AMD-powered ‘NUC’ is coming to the global market and it has a new name
Officially, this product is not part of the NUC family . The name obviously comes from “Next Unit of Compute,” which was originally an Intel brand, but as we know, ASUS acquired the rights to this name a few years back. Eventually, they developed ROG NUC systems, which are high-end gaming PCs in a small form factor.
Previously, the ROG NUC systems only featured Intel hardware, and there was no issue with the NUC branding. However, it seems that part of the brand ownership transfer to ASUS included a condition that it would not feature AMD hardware. For this reason, the new AMD-powered system is not called NUC, but ROG GR70. I’m sure this will not confuse anyone.

This 3-liter compact PC has Ryzen 9 9955HX3D APU , which is 16 core Zen5 processor, normally found in the most expensive gaming laptops. Quite literally, this is AMD’s best gaming CPU for laptops. As for what’s new, apart from the name, the product now has an official global name. For the Chinese market, it was called the ROG 9 Mini.

The ROG GR70 defies the conventions and expectations of what a mini gaming PC should be. The GR70 delivers groundbreaking gaming performance, courtesy of the latest AMD Ryzen 9 Series CPU with advanced 3D V‑Cache, alongside an NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU. Proprietary triple-fan cooling technology with efficient thermal coverage keeps temperatures in check even during the most heated battles, while Wi‑Fi 7 ensures lightning-fast, next-gen connectivity.
To summarize what we already know about this product: it will be offered with up to a GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. The Intel-based system also has 5070 Ti and 5080 options, so I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for why the AMD version is artificially limited to weaker GPU options.

Compared to the Intel system, there’s also support for larger memory capacity. The ROG NUC 2025 supports up to 48 GB of DDR5‑6400 memory, whereas the GR70 can work with up to 96 GB of DDR5‑5600 . So, while the speed is lower, the capacity is higher. In practice, ASUS does not sell systems with that much memory anyway, and the highest configuration available comes with 32 GB.
ASUS has not listed the GR70 anywhere yet, but we already know that the Chinese version is listed at $2100. It will likely cost a similar amount to the Ultra 9 275H/5070 version.
