Tiny PS5 Redux: build-it-yourself 6-liter PlayStation 5 mod from NFC

Tiny PS5 Redux is the refined, simplified version designed compared to YouTuber’s original version. If your console matches model 1215A, you can follow a step-by-step guide from NFC. The goal is the same: shrink the console into a portable form factor, now with a cleaner layout and easier assembly for the community. It is a complex mod though that involves soldering, cooling customizations and ordering of custom metal parts.
NFC’s new 6-liter chassis uses aluminum panels special finish from Cerakote plus and dark-smoke acrylic sides. The magnet-mounted top plate exposes USB, spring-loaded power and eject buttons, and makes cleaning fast. A polished aluminum pocket handle doubles as an exhaust path with a concealed status LED.

Cooling keeps the original PS5 heatsink plates but adds an Alpenfohn Black Ridge cooler with two 120 mm slim Noctua fans in push-pull, plus three 60 mm side exhaust fans. After redesigning the intake shroud and sealing recirculation paths, Redux measured under 220 W and about 50°C in Expedition 33, compared with 230–235 W and ~59°C on a stock PS5 and 220–225 W and ~56°C on the 2023 Tiny build.

For the Redux version, Wi-Fi modules moves under the top acrylic, while Bluetooth antennas are located on the rear. An M.2 extension and bracket make room for a full-size 2280 SSD; the demo unit used a 4 TB drive with a heatsink, removing the old 2230 capacity limit.
Power was the weak link on early Tiny builds. Newer games can pull past what a 250 W GaN brick can safely sustain, causing shutdowns. Switching to a 500 W GaN unit resolved the issue in testing.
Files for the CFI-1215A model will be available on NFC’s store for around $10, so it’s not free, unfortunately.
