Rumor: GeForce RTX 50 SUPER series scrapped over 3GB GDDR7 shortage

Uniko’s Hardware now claims that NVIDIA has cancelled the GeForce RTX 50 SUPER refresh. According to their post on X, 3GB GDDR7 modules are in short supply and will not reach the desktop consumer market, which would directly affect the rumored RTX 5080 SUPER, RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 5070 SUPER.
In our earlier report, sources pointed to a late Q1 to early Q2 2026 launch window for the RTX 50 SUPER lineup, with a focus on higher memory capacities. The plan, as rumored, was to move from 2GB to 3GB GDDR7 modules. That would allow 24GB for RTX 5080 SUPER and RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and 18GB for RTX 5070 SUPER, all based on the same GB203 and GB205 GPUs already used by the standard RTX 50 series.
[rumor]
due to the crazy shortage recently, 3gb gddr7 cant make it to the consumer market for desktop, thus the super series is cancelled.
and the current models are expected to be more expensive very soon, because of the increasing cost of 2gb gddr7. pic.twitter.com/yMSMj1MjqJ— UNIKO's Hardware 🌏 (@unikoshardware) November 7, 2025
Uniko’s now suggests that 3GB GDDR7 is being reserved for other products instead, such as RTX 5090 Laptop and RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell. At the same time, they claim that 2GB GDDR7 is becoming more expensive, which could put pressure on pricing for existing RTX 50 desktop models that already use this memory.
The facts are that NVIDIA has never confirmed a SUPER refresh and we only learned about this update from Kopite7kimi, a well-respected NVIDIA hardware leaker who revealed RTX 50 SUPER specs months ago. We all expected changes to the specs, as NVIDIA rarely sets everything in stone this early, but at the same time board partners had no direct information on the specs, other than that they were coming.
Another fact is that NVIDIA faces limited competition and their cards are already well stacked against AMD and Intel offerings. However, both RTX 5070-class and RX 9070-class cards are slowly becoming more affordable, which is a good sign and perhaps something that would force NVIDIA to reconsider its plans. In previous generations, RTX x070 price cuts were usually tied to upcoming SUPER refreshes.
Of course, we reached out to our sources to see if this is a new change, but we don’t expect anything firm given that NVIDIA has not released any official GeForce Embargo sheets for SUPER series yet.
