AYANEO Next 2 got a visual update
It looks like AYANEO is ready to finally reveal its new system for gamers.

Despite the launch of the AMD Strix Halo platform more than 10 months ago, there is still little choice of gaming handhelds powered by this architecture. This is surprising, given that when the first leaks started to appear, we were convinced the focus would be on built-in graphics capability for gaming. As it turns out, the AI market took over and AMD devoted most of the available Strix Halo APUs to companies that decided to launch mini PC and compact workstation systems instead.

The GPD Win 5 , OneXplayer OneXfly Apex and now AYANEO Next II are the only known gaming handhelds that will or already have Ryzen AI MAX 300 processors. Unlike GPD and OneXplayer, AYANEO has only teased its new handheld, but has not showcased its details until now.

So officially AYANEO has only confirmed that the system will launch with the flagship AI MAX+ 395 APU (16 Zen5 cores and full Radeon 8060S graphics with 40 RDNA 3.5 Compute Units). What they also revealed is that their system, unlike the Apex and Win 5, will have a built-in battery . The company has only confirmed today that it will be “extra-large for long-lasting gaming”, without specifying any details on capacity.

Perhaps the biggest news is that the system was completely redesigned. It lost its ROG Xbox Ally-like shape in favor of a more traditional design, something we can assume is similar to AYANEO’s Kun.

There is no mention of Mini-SSD support yet, but we do know it will have a dual-fan design. Cooling is easily the biggest issue with the Halo platform, which supports up to 120 W, but that is far too much for a battery-powered system. If AYANEO is able to keep its TDP at 45 to 65 W in the highest power mode while running on battery, that would already be an achievement, and perhaps higher if the cable is plugged in.
I think the biggest question for AYANEO will be pricing. The company does not mention a MAX 385 option, nor is there any sign of any handheld brand using the MAX 388 , which we recently covered. The latter would be a much better fit for a gaming system, but for some reason these boutique brands tend to market their systems as some kind of mobile AI workstations, which does not make much sense.
