Redditor’s quad RTX 5090 GPU & dual 2400W PSU rig is ready to benchmark breakers, not games

Redditor “Zestyclose-Salad-290” decided that one GeForce RTX 5090 was not enough. So they built a quad-RTX 5090 rig instead, using four ASUS ROG Astral cards packed into a dual-chamber case. The GPUs fill almost the entire second chamber, linked with PCIe 5.0 risers, while an AIO-cooled CPU sits on what looks like a Xeon platform. The result is a tower that is basically a GPU crate with a motherboard attached.

Each ROG Astral RTX 5090 can pull up to around 600W. Four of them land at about 2400W of GPU power alone. Add something like 200W for the CPU and the rest of the system and you get roughly 2600W of DC load. With a 90% efficient PSU setup, the wall draw is close to 2900W if everything is pushed at once.

In the US, that is more than 24A on 120V . Standard home circuits are rated for 15 or 20A. Run this full tilt on one line and you are not just “benching a PC”, you are load-testing your house wiring. Swapping in a bigger breaker without thicker cable would turn this AI workstation into a space heater with bonus flames.

The Redditor tried to solve the power side by installing two 2400W power supplies. On paper, that is up to 4800W of PSU capacity. The PC is now less likely to starve for power, but the building still might. On 230V in Europe the numbers calm down a bit, but not much. Around 2900W is about 12.5A . That fits under a 16A breaker, though only on a dedicated circuit with nothing else plugged in.

Premium RTX 5090 cards such as the ROG Astral sell for around 3300 USD each, so the GPUs alone are worth close to 13,000 USD. Between four 16-pin connectors side by side, two server-grade PSUs, and household sockets that were designed for kettles and toasters, this battlestation looks like the sort of rig that can benchmark AI one minute and test your home insurance the next.

Redditor explained that the PC is mainly for 3D rendering. Hopefully that’s really the case, because games “don’t like” SLI anymore.
